One of the most fascinating things to witness in a wind tunnel is the floating of water droplets. When poured from a jug, the droplets quickly break up into sizes similar to raindrops, ranging from 0.5 to 4 millimeters in diameter. When standing in the tunnel, you can experience what it would be like to fall with raindrops, as they have a low terminal velocity of 25 km/h. Contrary to popular belief, raindrops are not shaped like cartoon raindrops; they are actually closer to spherical, but with a flatter bottom due to the oncoming air. If a raindrop gets too big, it will flatten out, cave in the middle, and resemble a parachute before breaking up into smaller droplets.
