Congratulations! You just fell into the Coma Super Deep, the deepest hole in the world, measuring 12 kilometers deep. It would take you almost a minute to hit the ground if you jumped in!

The Soviet scientists started the project in 1970 to learn more about the composition of the Earth’s crust. Surprisingly, they found that the crust up to that depth was made out of granite transformed by intense pressure, rather than layers of granite and basalt as geologists have thought. They even found water squeezed out from the rock itself! It turns out that the Earth’s crust is partly made of water.

So, you can see what we can learn from being a giant hole - and you haven’t even hit the bottom yet!
