in a genre world
When creating something like this, I think of The Venture Brothers as a point of reference. They have created a deep mythology in their world, and the idea of taking a genre and putting grounded, slacker characters in it is something they do well. For example, when Foreon sees the blue obsidian, his response of “Holy [] []” grounds this grand genre piece in a more grounded vibe. The performances of the characters, taking breaks and talking [__] to each other, not being nice to each other, and fighting on the way to a gig, all give it that Venture Brothers feel. So I think the idea of putting slacker, grounded comedy and characters in a genre world is something The Venture Brothers have done well.
