The logo for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, hosted by Australia and New Zealand, reflects some of the unique features of this year’s tournament. This is the first Women’s World Cup to have more than one host nation, and the logo consists of 32 squares arranged in a tight pattern surrounding a geometric illustration of a soccer ball. The colors of the squares are meant to invoke the diverse natural elements of the two host countries, such as their mountains, water, cities, earth, sky, and rainforests. At the bottom of the logo are two images designed by Maori textile artist Fiona Collis of New Zealand and Kalkatungu and indigenous Australian artist Chern’ee Sutton. The patterns in the squares, along with the circle making up the top part of the logo, draw influence from Indigenous patterns in textiles and paintings from these two regions.
