Sharpshooter bugs are always peeing and they need to be careful not to give away their location to predators. To deal with this, they have developed an impressive technique: they only release their waste one droplet at a time, scooping it up with an organ called an anal stylus, and then launching it with a speed of around 40 times faster than the stylus launches it. This is thanks to a phenomenon called super propulsion, which gives the droplet momentum when it is launched, and then snaps it back into a sphere, converting potential energy into kinetic energy and adding speed. This technique is so impressive that it may even be able to improve the efficiency of rocket launches.
