NASA has come up with an innovative idea for a heat shield, designed to protect spacecrafts during their entry into an atmosphere. The design is based off a baby toy, an inflatable stacking ring, which would blow up in front of the spacecraft like a reversed Mary Poppins Umbrella. This would allow them to land bigger payloads and use rocket space more efficiently. Testing of this design is set to begin soon - proving that sometimes, rocket science can be Child’s Play!
