There are several different types of noise categorized by color, such as white, pink, and brown noise. White noise distributes power equally to all frequencies, but it tends to sound harsh to us due to the shape of our ears being more sensitive to higher and lower frequencies. Pink noise adjusts for this by boosting the lower frequencies and reducing power proportionally as frequency goes up, resulting in a more balanced sound to our ears even though it is skewed. Brown noise takes this idea even further, resulting in a low, ocean-like rumble that many people find relaxing.
