Thousands of people in Israel are protesting Prime Minister Netanyahu’s proposed judicial reforms. The Supreme Court is currently the only thing preventing the ruling party from having unlimited power, and is selected by a committee of 4 politicians and 5 legal professionals. Netanyahu wants to double the number of politicians on the committee, primarily by adding seats for politicians from his ruling party, allowing them to pick Supreme Court justices unilaterally. The reform would also allow the legislature to pass laws even if the Supreme Court declares them unconstitutional. Netanyahu has delayed the reforms, but the protesters are still out on the streets and are showing no signs of backing down.
